In honour of Labour Day, the Minister for Employment Patricia Francourt and her ministry have made a donation to nurses and lab technicians in recognition of the excellent work that they have done in the past year.

The donation which was sponsored by MCB and SACOS included hampers, water, milk and daily essentials that will be distributed to the nurses in the various Covid centres and lab technicians.

Accepting the gifts on behalf of the health ministry was Marie Antoinette Hoarau, principal nursing officer and Abdul Ebrahim, principal lab technologist.

The minister said that the donation was to show their gratitude and thank the health staff for the work they have done.

“The work they do is tough but despite that they are doing a very good job to take care of the population. They are giving a service that is putting them at risk but they are determined to make sure the population stays safe,” said Minister Francourt.

During the ceremony nurse Hoarau recounted the hectic couple of months to the minister where she described how understaffed they were at one point taking care of Covid patients.

She said that staff morale has remained high throughout the couple of months, but nevertheless they still deserve support and the gesture made by Minister Francourt is an example of that.

“The donations show us that behind the scenes there are people supporting us and understanding what we are going through as we too have families that we are neglecting so we can provide the best care for patients,” she said.

For his part Mr Ebrahim said that the laboratory staff is working long hours to analyze covid tests, adding that he appreciates deeply the generous donation made by the minister as it shows her support.

The items donated will benefit the nurses at the isolation centres, vaccination centres and technicians at Covid testing laboratories.
